Project Summary

Global Satcoms delivered a Field Service Dispatch – Install onboard ADMORE in Lomé, Togo.
The scope covered inspection of pre-installation work, indoor equipment assembly, VSAT commissioning, Infinity troubleshooting and configuration, Starlink and voice activation, FBB SIM insertion and testing, business and crew network validation, and access point configuration.
The intervention was completed following a vessel takeover schedule change and included standby periods prior to boarding.

Challenges & Operational Constraints

  • Vessel takeover date changed, requiring travel rescheduling and extended standby.

  • Standby periods in Lagos prior to final transit to Lomé.

  • Onboard work depended on rack installation completion before indoor equipment could be assembled.

  • Initial issue where Infinity was not visible to NOC, requiring extended troubleshooting and next-day continuation.

  • Commissioning activities coordinated closely with NOC remote support.


Work Completed

The attending engineer completed the following tasks as documented in the service report:

  • Travel from home to PHC Airport, onward travel to Lagos and Lomé

  • Standby in Lagos pending vessel takeover date

  • Boarding ADMORE and meeting with Chief Engineer

  • Inspection of equipment and pre-installation work

  • Assembly of indoor units and connection according to diagram

  • Power-up of all equipment and coordination with NOC

  • Upload of option files and VSAT commissioning

  • Confirmation of antenna lock and VSAT online status by NOC

  • Troubleshooting Infinity connectivity with NOC

  • Provision of remote access for Infinity and equipment configuration

  • Starlink activation and voice activation

  • Insertion of FBB SIM and reset of FBB unit as instructed by NOC

  • Internet and email testing on:

    • Business PC

    • Master’s PC

    • CCR PC

    • ECR PC

  • Phone testing (all confirmed working)

  • Configuration of six (6) access points for crew Wi-Fi (all confirmed working)

  • Monitoring and standby prior to disembarkation

  • Crew Wi-Fi access points configured and tested

Lessons Learned

  • Vessel takeover changes impact deployment timelines, requiring flexibility in travel and standby planning.

  • Rack readiness is critical to avoid delays in indoor equipment installation.

  • Close NOC collaboration is essential when commissioning multiple systems (VSAT, Infinity, Starlink, FBB).

  • Staged activation (VSAT first, Starlink/FBB later) helps isolate and resolve integration issues.

  • VSAT, Infinity, Starlink, FBB, voice, and crew Wi-Fi fully commissioned and tested.
